Optical technology progress in a wide range of applications, and still demands the further development. Here, novel single crystals with advantageous characteristics will be introduced. Tb3(Sc1-xLux)2Al3O12 (TSLAG), CeF3 and PrF3 single crystals have been designed and grown for high-power laser machinery. They showed a higher visible-UV transparency and a larger Faraday rotation than Tb3Ga5O12 (TGG). They are therefore very promising material in particular for new magneto- optical isolator applications in the UV-VIS-NIR wavelength. Single crystal phosphors (SCPs) as a new approach to binder-free all- inorganic phosphors have been proposed. This contrasts with the general imaginary that phosphors are fine ceramic powders embedded in epoxies or resins. SCPs possess an outstanding conversion efficiency, a high temperature stability and a high thermal conductivity. These meet the requirements for high-brightness lighting applications.
